Hello! My name is Carrie Romero! I grew up in Aurora, Colorado but moved to Dallas in 2010. My taste in music depends on my mood. Anything from Christian to country to pop to rock. Generally my go to is Country. I am a new artist and just getting into my music career! I believe every song has a story and regardless of the language it can be understood when it is sung or played from the heart. Growing up, I was told put your heart into everything you do. I put my heart into every song. I believe that sets me apart from others artists. I’m also very driven and will never let a challenge stop me!
During school, I played woodwind and brass instruments but since college, I have just focused on singing.
I am a God fearing woman who loves getting to know new people especially while traveling. I am a firm believer in self care! Music, traveling and baking are my self care techniques! No one ever goes hungry at my house! Desserts or tamales… it’s up to you! If you leave hungry, it’s your own fault! I will give and give to help someone out if I can! I am a firm believer in the Golden Rule: do onto others what you would have them do onto you. I will always stand up for what I believe in! I believe everyone deserves a second chance. I live with the saying of “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” However, it does not happen a third time.
To me, performance is crucial! I sing because it’s a stress relief but I know music heals! I want my music to inspire people and help them take a step back and see that the stresses of the day do not have to control them. Every time I perform, my goal is to make an impact on just one person. If I made you smile and took your mind off of your stress then my goal was accomplished!
A good song occurs when the lyrics tell a story. A great song happens when you can visualize that story and the listener can connect to the emotions portrayed by the artist.
One of a Kind is my first album! I had the honor of writing with the amazing songwriters Curt Ryle and John Castleberry on nine of the twelve songs. Five of the songs are ones that Curt and I wrote together. The other four John co-wrote with us. Songwriting with Curt and John just flowed effortlessly. Eyes in the Back of My Heart is my first song. Curt and I seamlessly rattled off the lines one after the other. As each line was written, Curt strummed on his guitar and created amazing melodies. That song was done in 30 minutes. The same happened when Curt, John and I wrote together. We wrote those nine songs in three days.
My first performance was in high school. “I will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor. I was nervous and unknown to me, my mic was not working. I didn’t do a mic check and no one could hear me. The sound tech came running up halfway through and switched my mic and then boom sound! My next memorable performance was at karaoke and it was terrifying! It was my first time doing karaoke and I was so nervous that the microphone and my hand trembled with every note. I never let those stop me though. I kept pushing on! I continued to sing and eventually gained the confidence I had within me the whole time. I just needed to put my heart into it and take a deep breath. It took me a bit to get comfortable, but eventually I did.
My musical influences are Lee Ann Womack, Shania Twain, Trisha Yearwood, Jo Dee Messina, Steven Curtis Chapman, Point of Grace, Avalon… I grew up on 90s Christian and Country.
Since I am a new artist, I have not won any official awards yet! But I’m sure something will come within my future.
My best advice for anyone trying to come into the music business is to be yourself and always put your heart into whatever you do. Whether you sing, play or write. Always be genuine but don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith when you get the opportunity!
If I could meet anyone living or otherwise, I would want to meet my grandparents. I only knew my dad’s mom. The others passed before I was born. I would love to hear stories from them about when my parents were little. I would love to hear some of the funny/embarrassing stories that my parents don’t know or don’t want to tell.
Anyway, that’s me in a nutshell.
