EV Mae

CCS Artist

Home Town: My hometown is Jasper Indiana

Music Genres:  My favorite music genres are country and southern rock. With country, I love Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Megan Morony, and Zach Bryan. With southern rock, I love The Eagles, Blackberry Smoke, and The Steel Woods.

Describe yourself as an artist: As an artist, my favorite thing is to perform. I love to be in front of people and feel their energy. I lean more toward country music when I write my own songs and perform.

What makes you unique as an artist? What makes me unique as an artist is, I like the older country music so with my music I want to try and bring back some of that traditional country back into today’s radio.

What instruments do you play? The instrument I play is the guitar.

Tell us about yourself? (Personality, principles): My personality is very bubbly and I am a very social person. I will talk to anyone at any chance I can get. I live my life as a christian should and try to always do the right thing and try to treat people the way God would want me to.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music? Outside of music I love to do anything outside. I love to hunt and fish. Me and my family love to camp and have a big group around home that we camp with. I also love to bake which I got from my grandmother.

What inspired you to start playing and performing music? My parents were my biggest inspirations to start performing. My dad always played music and had a guitar in his hand around the house so I picked up on that. My mom has a huge love for music so I get my passion from her.

In your opinion, what makes a great song? I think a great song is something that several people can relate to. A great song is catchy and one you find yourself singing throughout the day. It should make you feel something, whether it be happy or sad.

Do you write music? I have written several songs including, “Always Loving Me” which I co-wrote with Brayden Ryle, “Wrong Side of Jesus” and “The Blues”.

If so, describe your creative process in your songwriting: When writing a song I love to co-write because it can bring in so many more ideas than if you were writing alone. I think you should love a song you are writing and keep fixing it until you do love it.

When did you first perform and what was it like? My first performance was at Tootsies on Broadway in Nashville. It was my 9th birthday and some ladies in sparkly cowboy hats asked the band if I could get up and sing a song. I fell in love with the energy on stage and then started singing at nursing homes around home after that.

Who are your influences? One of my biggest influences right now is Laney Wilson. I really love the type of music she sings and I think it is very in line with what I want to do.

What awards have you won for your music? An award I won was, second place at the WBDC country showdown which is a contest around Jasper.

What advice would you give someone that is trying to break into music? Some advice I would give someone trying to break into music would be, love what you do. If you don’t love what you’re doing then you should not be doing it. Never forget where you came from and the people that helped you get to where you are. Lastly, you should be around people that lift you up and support your dreams. You should also support other musicians as well and lift them up.

If you could meet anyone, living or otherwise, who would it be? If I could meet anyone, I would want to meet Laney Wilson. She seems like an amazing person and I really admire what she has done with her music. I really relate to her because our taste in music is very similar.
